After Cosmetic Dental Reconstruction

Remember that it will take time to adjust to the feel of your new bite. When the bite is altered or the position of the teeth is changed, it may take several days for your brain to recognize the new alignment or thickness as normal. If you continue to notice high spots or bite-related issues, please call our office at Smile Professionals Dentistry Phone Number (714) 771-2600 so we can schedule an adjustment appointment.

It is normal to experience some sensitivity to hot and cold. Teeth often require time to heal after the removal of tooth structure, and mild sensitivity is expected during this period. Your gums may also feel sore for a few days. Warm saltwater rinses (one teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water), three times a day, can help reduce discomfort and swelling. Over-the-counter pain relievers such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen (Motrin), taken every 3–4 hours as needed, should also provide relief.

Do not be concerned if your speech is temporarily affected. You will quickly adapt and return to normal speech patterns within a few days. You may also notice increased salivation, which is your body’s natural response to the new size and shape of your teeth. This typically subsides within a week.

Daily brushing and flossing are essential to the success of your new dental work. Consistent plaque removal, along with routine professional cleanings, is critical for long-term results. Avoid foods that can crack, chip, or damage teeth—such as ice, hard candy, peanut brittle, fingernails, or pencils—as well as sticky candies. Smoking and stain-causing foods and beverages (such as coffee, tea, red wine, and berries) may also discolor your new teeth.

Protect your smile. If you participate in sports, let us know so we can provide a custom mouthguard. If you grind your teeth at night, wear the night guard provided to you.

Adjusting to the look and feel of your new smile will take time. If you experience any problems or have concerns, please reach out to us. We are always happy to answer your questions and support your care.
